Holy Cross Pre-school is first and foremost a Christian Pre-school working very closely with Holy Cross Catholic Primary Academy School, and we follow closely the Christian religious calendar.
It is our intention to make our pre-school accessible to children and families from all sections of the local community, and do not exclude those from other religions, although they need to be aware and flexible to our Christian beliefs.
The settings policies help us to make sure that the service provided by Holy Cross is a high quality one and that being a member of Holy Cross is an enjoyable and beneficial experience for each child and her/his parents.
The staff and parents of Holy Cross work together to adopt the policies and they all have the opportunity to take part in the review of the policies. This review helps us to make sure that the policies are enabling the setting to provide a quality service for its members and the local community.
The Management of Pre-school/Nursery
The pre-school/nursery is owned and governed by Mrs Natalie Lynch.
Holy Cross Pre-School encourages parents to support the group. Parents are actively encouraged to become involved as volunteers, in tasks, activities, completing questionnaires, and any changes proposed for the group.
The Session
Holy Cross organises its sessions so that the children can choose from - and work at - a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
Outdoor activities contribute to children's health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity - and are encouraged - to take part in outdoor child-chosen and adult-led activities, as well as those provided in the indoor playroom/s.
Dinners
Holy Cross makes dinner time a social time at which children and adults sit together. Dinners follow a healthy eating plan, and include fresh food, fruit and vegetables, as well as Dairy. We plan additions to dinners so that they provide the children with healthy and nutritious food. Do tell us about your child's dietary needs and we will make sure that these are met.
Starting at Holy Cross Pre-school/ Nursery
The first days
We want your child to feel happy and safe at Holy Cross. To make sure that this is the case, the staff will work with you to decide on how to help your child to settle into the setting. Holy Cross has a policy about helping children to settle into the setting.
Clothing
Holy Cross provides some protective clothing for the children when they play with messy activities. There is a non-compulsory uniform at parents request which holds our community logo & is purchased directly through Pre-school to keep costs low. [We require children to wear clothes which will not cause upset if they get dirty and easy for toileting.]
Holy Cross encourages children to gain the skills which help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet and taking off - and putting on - outdoor clothes. Clothing which is easy for them to manage will help them to do this.
We hope that you and your child enjoy being members of Holy Cross Pre-School, and that you find taking part in our activities interesting and stimulating. Our staff are always ready and willing to talk with you about your ideas, views or questions.
